Lincoln underway for sea trials, then back to Everett

USS Abraham Lincoln left Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton on Wednesday after a nine-month overhaul. The ship and its crew will spend about five days conducting sea trials before heading back to their Naval Station Everett homeport, according to the Navy.

Stennis home again in Bremerton

USS John C. Stennis arrived at its homeport in Bremerton on Friday, July 10, after a six-month deployment. The ship wound its way home along the length of the West Coast after exercises off the coast of Alaska, making stops in Everett and San Diego to drop off air wing crew members.

We'll say 'Goodbye, Abe; Hello, Nimitz'

USS Nimitz is scheduled to arrive at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard late next year for maintenance. Then, according to U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, the carrier will switch homeports to Everett to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln when it goes to the East Coast for refueling in 2013.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin visits Stennis

The crew of the Bremerton-based aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis got a visit this week from former vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Stennis was operating off the coast of Alaska for the Northern Edge exercise.

The ship, its strike group and air wing are wrapping up a deployment that began in January.

Stennis strike group sets out on deployment

USS John C. Stennis left for a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment Jan. 17. The ship and its crew pulled out of port in Bremerton during the early morning hours of Jan. 13 and headed to the San Diego to meet with Carrier Air Wing 9 and Destroyer Squadron 21 before continuing on its way. The deployment is expected to last about six or seven months.
