The frigate USS Ingraham, based in Everett, was on its way to American Samoa yesterday to turn what was supposed to be a routine port call on a western Pacific deployment into a humanitarian aid mission.

USS Ingraham leaves for western Pacific deployment

The frigate USS Ingraham left Everett on Tuesday for a scheduled six-month deployment to the western Pacific. The ship and its crew of about 200 sailors and officers returned from their last deployment in May 2008 but have spent the last several months conducting exercises off the Pacific Coast.

Deployments, housing, health care among military families' top concerns, study says

A survey by Blue Star Families released last week indicates that most military families feel the general public doesn't understand their sacrifices.

Conducted in March, the survey of 2,796 military family members was presented to members of Congress on May 5. Blue Star Families also released an executive summary of the results on its Web site.

Stennis strike group sets out on deployment

USS John C. Stennis left for a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment Jan. 17. The ship and its crew pulled out of port in Bremerton during the early morning hours of Jan. 13 and headed to the San Diego to meet with Carrier Air Wing 9 and Destroyer Squadron 21 before continuing on its way. The deployment is expected to last about six or seven months.
