If you're still trying to decide what to do for Halloween, here's a rundown of events happening this week on or near local bases in Kitsap, Whidbey Island and Everett. This list is by no means comprehensive. Post a comment and share other activities you'd recommend.
USS Turner Joy, now a museum on the Bremerton waterfront, is open beginning at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 29-31 for its annual haunted ship tours. Admission is $5. Click here to see a PDF with more details.
Navylifepnw.com has details about events happening on all the local bases:
- At Naval Base Kitsap, Boo Bowl from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 31 at Olympic Lanes features a costume contest, candy, games and prizes for a $10 entry fee. See this PDF for more information. Starting at the same time, the Samual Adams pub has its own Halloween party and football-themed costume contest. Click here for the PDF flier.
- At Naval Station Everett, Trunk or Treat on Oct. 30 is the main event. The car decorating contest starts at 3:30 p.m. and trick-or-treating starts at 6:30. Here's the PDF with details.
- At Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, you have a series of events to choose from: a celebration at the Chief's Club on Oct. 30, a free showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9 p.m. on Oct. 31, the Halloween Spooktacular at Gallery Golf Course, and trick-or-treating plus free bowling for kids 14 and under in costume at Convergence Zone from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 31.
For those who live closer to Tacoma or are willing to venture farther, the annual Fort Lewis Theatrical Nightmare is open Oct. 30-31 at Fort Lewis' Shoreline Park. Admission is $5 for children under 12 and $6 for ages 12 and up. Read more about it in the Northwest Guardian.
Fort Lewis' MWR department also hosts a Harvest Festival from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween. See PDF for more details.
Update:
The Seabees at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor also have an annual haunted house on base. It's at the CBMU 303 building on Thresher Avenue from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Halloween night. The first hour is geared toward younger children, so it's not as scary. Tickets are $5 for ages 13 and up, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for ages 5 and under.
