Washington Huskies' football coach Steve Sarkisian offered four free tickets to this Saturday's UW-Cal game for all active duty military, police and firefighters. Contact the ticket office at 206-543-2200 for information.
The Northwest Navigator last week carried a column from Navy Legal with advice for those thinking about how the Military Spouses Residency Relief Act could affect their families. The column suggested setting up an appointment with your local Navy Legal office to discuss your individual circumstances.
A sailor from southern Oregon was killed in an apparent electrical accident onboard USS Rentz in the Persian Gulf. His family told The Oregonian he joined the Navy to see the world.
The woman injured in an accident at Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton (not PSNS, as some news reports originally said) is recovering at the hospital. Her family told the Kitsap Sun they were thankful for support from the community. Donations to help her and her family can be made to a fund established with Kitsap Bank.

A vehicle-mounted laser developed by Boeing destroyed 50 IEDs in tests (SeattlePI.com).
The Navy approved increased production of the EA-18G Growler, according to an article in Navy Times. The first Growler squadron is expected to deploy from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in 2010.
USS Emory Land, a submarine tender, will be forward-deployed to Diego Garcia after completing an overhaul at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.
After coming home for Thanksgiving, USS John C. Stennis left again for the California coast this week. See the update on my earlier post. Kitsap Sun, West Seattle Blog and Twitter user @JNHohol all posted photos of the aircraft carrier leaving port at sunset.
