USS Abraham Lincoln heads to Bremerton
Monday, April 20, 2009
USS Abraham Lincoln left its homeport in Everett on Friday for an extended maintenance period at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. The ship and its crew will remain in Bremerton until mid-January 2010.
On its trip across Puget Sound, the ship carried a group of Kitsap County guests, including shipyard workers, community leaders and elementary school students. See video and photos of the cruise from the Kitsap Sun.
About one-third of the ship's crew is expected to commute to Bremerton from the Everett area. Another third will be housed on base at Naval Base Kitsap-Bremerton, and the rest live in the Bremerton area.
After sea trials and training next year, the ship is expected to deploy in fall 2010, according to spokseman Lt. Cmdr. William Marks.
